100% Solid European Oak 18mm "A" grade is used to make the
"Studio" style wood flooring. A single piece of Studio Oak
Wood Flooring is 1800mm long, this is made from 18mm thick, random
length staves (approx 220 - 320mm) that are finger jointed together. The
width of a piece of Studio Oak wood flooring is 200mm, this is
made from 3 lengths of the finger jointed oak being glued together.
Once the glue has dried the solid Oak wood flooring
is tongue and grooved and end matched. Stress grooves are then cut along the underside of the
wood flooring to
reduce the risk of bending and to allow for ventilation.
The solid Oak wood flooring is then given a micro bevel.
The micro bevel reduces the visibility of an uneven floor and
blends one plank to another, reducing the step effect for minor
imperfections. It allows for the solid wood flooring to be easily edge
matched.
The wood flooring is then sanded to a very fine 150grit. Once cleaned, an
Oil which gives a very dark appearance is applied to the Oak, clearly bringing out the natural
quality in the wood. The 1800 x 200 x 18mm Solid European Oak
Wood Flooring
is then packaged and ready to sell, lay and enjoy.
Wood Flooring Appearance:
The natural grain and quality of Oak is visible through the dark lacquer.
European Oak is a very popular choice for wood flooring, not only for its appearance but also for its
hard wearing and stability.
The colour does vary slightly under different light,
and photo's do not always show a true resemblance so we have taken several
photos to give you as good an idea of the appearance as possible. We can
supply samples of any of our wood flooring for a small charge. If you would like to
order a sample please contact us on the details below.
The finger joints are not visible from the top. As you can see here from a
distance the wood appears very dark and uniformed, but as you get closer you
can clearly see the grain behaviour and quality in the wood.
Wood Flooring Construction:
The micro bevel
reduces the visibility of an uneven floor and blends one plank to another,
reducing the step effect for minor imperfections. Oak is a natural product,
and is vulnerable to movement from natural moisture levels in the air and
every piece can react differently. The micro bevel helps to blend in one
piece to another, so as to always keeping an even and safe surface. The
stress grooves on the underside of the solid Oak wood flooring reduce natural movement and
is designed to stop the plank cupping, they also allow for ventilation and
reduce any condensation.
Tongue and grooved on two sides and
then end matched. The Oak wood flooring fits together
easily and can be glued or nailed into place.
Finger Joint
Finger Joint
With micro bevel
Without micro bevel
The finger joint is an extremely strong joint due to
large surface area. To give you
an idea of the strength of the joints and the glue used to hold them
together, if the wood flooring is put under immense pressure, the wood would
break before the joints. On the right is an example of a piece of wood
flooring that
has been laid 1mm out of place, without the micro bevel there is a sharp
edge that will catch and damage, or be damaged. With the micro bevel this
problem is averted.
Wood Flooring Packaging:
The wood flooring always has the underside showing
when packed to avoid and damage during transit.
We hold large stocks of all our wood flooring, so whether
its a single square meter, an entire showroom or stocks for re-sale
we can meet your needs.
