100% Solid European Oak is used to make the
"Studio" style hardwood floor. A single piece of
Studio Oak
hardwood floor
is 1800mm long, this is made from
18mm thick, random length staves (approx 220 - 320mm) that are finger
jointed together in length. The width of a single piece of Studio Oak hardwood floor is 200mm, this is
made from 3 lengths of the finger jointed oak being edge glued together.
The solid Oak hardwood floor
is tongue and grooved, end matched and stress grooves are cut along the underside
to
reduce the risk of cupping and to allow for ventilation.
The floor is given a micro bevel around the top
surface edge. The micro bevel helps the floor remain
even and blends one plank to another, reducing the step effect for minor
imperfections from the original floor surface.
The hardwood floor is sanded to a fine 150grit. The
1800 x 200 x 18mm Solid European Oak Hardwood floor is then packaged
in plastic wrapping with cardboard ends for protection and ready
to be finished by the customer and enjoyed for many years.
Oak Hardwood Floor Appearance:
The natural grain and quality of Oak is visible before a finish is applied,
but the true quality is revealed once oiled or lacquered. European
Oak is very popular not only for its appearance but also for its hard
wearing, durability and stability.
The colour does vary slightly under different light,
and photo's do not always show a true resemblance so we have taken several
photos. This should give you a good idea of the Oak floors appearance. We can
supply samples of all the Oak hardwood floor for a small charge. If you would like to
order a sample please contact us on the details below.
As you can see here the finger joints are not visible from the top
of the Oak floor.
Here you can see the grain of the Oak, which will
be enriched fully when a finish has been applied. It is understandable why
Solid Oak Hardwood Floor is so popular.
Oak Hardwood Floor Construction:
Tongue and grooved on the lengths and then end matched. The pieces of
hardwood floor fit together
easily and can either be glued. secret nailed or screwed into place.
The micro bevel
reduces the visibility of an uneven floor and blends one plank to another,
reducing the step effect for minor imperfections in your floor
surface. Oak is a natural product
and is vulnerable to movement from natural moisture levels in the air and
every piece can react differently. The micro bevel helps to blend in one
piece to another, so as to always keeping an even and safe surface. The
stress grooves on the underside of the Solid Oak Hardwood Floor reduce natural movement and
is designed to stop the plank from cupping, they also allow for ventilation
and reduce any condensation or sweating.

no micro bevel
The finger joint is an extremely strong joint
because the surface area is greatly increased. To give you an idea of the
strength of the joints and the glue used to hold them together, if the solid
Oak hardwood floor was put under immense pressure, the wood would
break along the grain before the joints. On the right is an example of a piece of a hardwood floor that
has been laid 1mm out of place, without the micro bevel there is a sharp
edge that will catch and damage, or be damaged. With the micro bevel this
problem is averted.
